INTRODUCTION

Since time immemorial, Hindu society has been extremely tolerant, accommodating, benign and very  resilient. Hindus throughout the ages have had a holistic approach, taking everything in their stride.

From the earliest times, Bharatavarsha, the holy land of Hindus, has been a magnet that has attracted travelers from all over the world. Some arrived here to imbibe the vast storehouse of knowledge, spiritualism and philosophy. Others, attracted by its riches, like the ancient Romans, the  Greek, and several other nationalities, undertook arduously long journeys to trade.

In the time honored dictum of atithi devo bhava (a guest is akin God), Hindus welcomed with open arms all and sundry. Some visitors immensely impressed by what they saw, stayed on. Others returned, carrying riches not only gold, silver, gems, ivory textiles, chemicals and spices, but also vast amounts of knowledge to improve their primitive societies.

However, towards the  middle of the first millennium AD, hordes of barbarians from the arid deserts of Arabia, infused with the fanaticism of their new religion and greedy for the fabulous wealth of this great land, came charging into the country, looting it, pillaging it, killing its citizens, raping and enslaving its women, destroying our precious monuments, temples and our cities and forcibly converting the hapless citizens.

Civilized Hindu society, brought up on ideals of dharma, had no answer to this wild, ferocious, savage, blood thirsty, barbarism the likes of which Hindus had not seen in their several millennia old existence.

Hindus went into a shell. The country was subjugated by these barbarians whose savage reign continued till the arrival of the Christian colonizers.

Deliverance? Perish the thought.!! The savagery remained the same. The barbarism was the same. The intention was the same. Enslave, loot and continue looting. Destroy Hindu culture, Hindu civilization, Hindu values, ethos, traditions. The very foundations of Hindu society. The only difference was that against the crudeness of the Islamic barbarians, their approach had a veneer of refinement. But only on the surface .

Arose to stem the onslaught. Notable among the myriad of these Hindu heroes, names like Rana Pratap, Chhatrapati Shivaji, and several others did their best to drive away the invaders. Similarly, fearless heroes and heroines like Tatya Tonpe and  Rani Laxmi Bai of Jhansi in the North and Veera Pandya Kattabomman and Kittur Chennama in the South took on the Christian colonialists. This was followed in the last century by a galaxy of brave souls such as Netaji Bose, Veer Savarkar, Subramaniya Bharati , martyrs like Bhagat Singh, Sukhdeo and Rajguru. Finally, freedom dawned. But , alas,  at a price !!

One third of the country comprising the most fertile lands in the east and west were wrenched off and handed over to the descendants of the Islamic invaders. This was the Christian colonizers’ parting kick. Crores of Hindus from the Punjab, Baluchistan, Multan, the North West Frontier Province, Sindh and East Bengal had to flee their hearth and homes. That is, the fortunate victims who survived history’s worst carnage perpetrated by the Islamic fanatics in those provinces.

Thus, Hindus were left with a truncated country. And, thanks to the antics of some pseudo secular politicians, a vast majority of Muslims did not leave for the so called  “ Land of the Pure”, Pakistan . They remained behind. But ironically, the entire Hindu population in Pakistan were driven out by the Islamic fanatics.

Inheriting the mantle of the Christian colonizers, the Congress rulers who had assumed power, continued the British policy of “Divide and Rule”, pampering the Muslims and other minorities, working against Hindu interests to such an extent that they (the Hindus) started feeling whether they were aliens in their own country.

Riots caused by Muslim intolerance and fanaticism continued taking a huge toll of Hindu lives. Additionally, thanks to the Nehruvian brand of secularism, missionaries led by his bosom friend, the British pastor Rev. Scott, continued their depredations in the North east of the country converting almost the entire population of that area to Christianity. Conversions to Christianity became rampant in other parts of the country too,  particularly the tribal areas of central India and in states like Tamil Nadir, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala..

It was against this background that the Vishwa Hindu Parishad was born on Gokul Ashtami Day,  1964 to protect Hindu interests.

The VHP has been striving to uphold Hindu dignity, Hindu culture, Hindu civilization and the Hindu religion. VHP activists  have fanned out to the remotest corners of the country setting up and manning   schools and colleges, orphanages, tribal hostels, cultural centers, gymnasiums, libraries and reading rooms, legal aid cells, and have achieved considerable success  in checkmating the nefarious activities of foreign missionaries and jehadis who are out to destroy everything that Hindus stand for. Our cadres have performed exemplary service during natural calamities like floods, earthquakes and famines and have earned the respect of the masses.

However, thanks to the domination of the national  media, particularly the English media, including the television channels by pseudo secular anti Hindu forces, people at large do not come to know about our nation bonding, nation building, patriotic work benefiting millions of our poor countrymen including the tribals, the economically and socially backward sections of society. The anti Hindu media, in pursuit of its agenda of service to forces inimical to the country, paints us in the blackest of colors. Contrarily it glorifies the activities of forces out to destabilize the country through forced conversions, violence and persecution of Hindus. While the likes of pseudo secularist anti Hindus of the likes of Teesta Setalvad, Abu Azmi, Shabana Azmi , Abraham Mathia, P.A Sebastian and others are given free access to newspaper space and television   time to spew venom at us and at Hindu society, our genuine efforts to build a healthy, vibrant and self confident  Hindu.
